Historypin: Mapping The Past

August 25, 2011 by Davey

Ever wondered what your street looked like 50 years ago? Or your favourite landmark 100 years ago? Historypin is here to help. In a nutshell the site allows you to overlay images from the past with present day Google Street View Maps. It’s a way to “share small glimpses of the past and to build up the huge story of human history“. An app was recently launched for your smartphone which allows you to pan the streets and see historical photos superimposed upon wherever you happen to be.

The website is growing by the day and one nice feature is that anyone can create and share their own tour using any content uploaded to the site.
