Turn Up the Vibes

February 10, 2011 by Al

Our good friends at Nightflight play host to the man of many names Luke Vibert tomorrow night in Dublin. A firm favorite in the Synth Eastwood office, Vibert has released 19 different studio albums for a variety of labels including Warp Records, Ninja Tune, Lo recordings, Planet Mu, Mo-Wax and Aphex Twin’s Rephlex.

Most labels will limit an artist to one or two album releases a year. For Vibert though this is nowhere near enough for his sheer productivity and diversity. For these reasons he uses a range of Sherlock Holmes style monikers such as Wagon Christ, Kerrier District, Plug and Ace of Clubs to name but a few. What makes even more sense about this is that it allows Vibert to not get pinned to one musical style or genre… he can really experiment.

Another element that makes Vibert even more appealing for us though is that he always employs animation for his music videos. Shown above is the video for the oddly titled track “Sparky is a Retard”… a floaty dream-like mix of everyday objects. Another video of Vibert’s called “I Love Acid” was directed by Irish animation troupe Delicious 9 in 2005… check it out here.

I for one can’t wait to see him play tomorrow night. For details on the show see here.
