John Peel’s Archive to be Made Public

May 3, 2012 by Al

Sheila Ravenscroft is the wife of the late radio-legend John Peel and the patron of the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts. In conjunction with The Space and the BBC, the Centre for Creative Arts is making sections of Peel’s legendary music collection public. The vast encyclopedia of audio includes over 26,000 albums and over 40,000 singles all of which have been alphabetized and numbered by John’s own hand, charmingly with the aid of postcards and an old olympus typewriter. The project will release content alphabetically with A available to view now.

Step in to his home studio here.

If this leaves you wanting more BBC made a 30 minute documentary for John’s 50th birthday that was never aired that can be viewed here too.
