These shoes grow back as trees. Wow.

February 15, 2011 by Karl

There’s sometimes a certain amount of scepticism when it comes to eco-fashion. Images of hemp lounging pants and Birkenstock stilettos all too easily get put forward. It’s with this in mind that Dutch footwear company OAT have released their super stylish and super eco-friendly Virgin Collection.

Made entirely from biodegradable materials the Virgin Collection also have seeds sown into their soles. This means when you bury them in the garden, woods or compost heap they sprout back as trees.

It’s not very clear from their website when or if the shoes will be made available commercially but you can keep up to date with thier progress on their blog. You can also see pictures from their Amsterdam Fashion show and read an interview with the creators on Yatzer.

We can now literally walk our shoes into the ground.
