From the Streets to Cyberspace

January 20, 2011 by Al

I’m not too keen on “The Street’s” Mike Skinner when he’s in his cocksure rapper mode and to be honest his music’s appeal for me dropped off early on, but today I tip my tweed hat to his current mode of attack. Skinner has always been a one man band and now he seems to have taken the online promotion of his upcoming album all on his own shoulders too.

As a pre-cursor to his albums release with daily YouTube video diaries he is cleverly creating a direct link between the album and audience. As well as giving updates on how the recording is going Skinner reacts to fans Twitter feeds, YouTube comments and current news stories in his very well edited and slickly shot videos.

I shall never judge a book by its bravado again.
