If Global Warming Is Real Then Why Is It Cold?

December 16, 2011 by Synth Eastwood

Today was the first day of winter snow in Dublin this year, so as a terrified Steve Manning disconnects his phone for a couple of days it’s a good time to ask why these past few winters have witnessed such agreeably festive weather, and if perhaps we as a species are doing anything to precipitate it ourselves. Scientists have long said that dramatic seasonal temperature shifts are a telltale sign of global warming.

Some people find that reasoning tough to grasp, which is why there’s a massive industry of business-backed quack science that wants to tell you the colder it gets, the less global warming is true, and thus the more you can feel free to stuff your fat face with oil and plastics. An industry so large, in fact, that you can fill an entire blog with braindead cartoons specifically asking that one stupid question, If Global Warming Is Real Then Why Is It Cold?

Depressing, hilarious and hypnotic in equal measure this blog has kept brisk business since it was started, but luckily there are people – and robotic twitter accounts – fighting back.
