The Amazing Plan by Geoffrey Canada

August 16, 2011 by Synth Eastwood

Geoffrey Canada is a social activist and educator from the Bronx, New York who has worked with urban poverty in Harlem for years. Suffering the daily frustration of helping one teen whilst losing ten to unemployment, drugs, incarceration or worse – Geoffrey set about rethinking the entire structure and ‘going big’ with a plan to turn the tide for his whole community. Author of ‘Whatever it takes’, Paul Tough reports the whole story here for This American Life.

With the current social unrest in London this is an interesting and inspiring community approach that was taken across the pond in New York. Due to its success so far Geoffrey’s system is set to roll out to 20 other cities in the near future.
