Invisible Effects From The Past

January 24, 2011 by Davey

I, like a lot of you out there have been tuning into the award winning HBO series Boardwalk Empire. It’s set in Atlantic City in the Prohibition era with Steve Buscemi at the helm. Watching the pilot’s title sequence I knew I was in good hands as Martin Scorsese produces and directs. Besides the odd dodgy Irish accent it really is great television.

Five episodes in and I came across the video above. I had heard about the 300-foot “period-perfect rendition” of the boardwalk but I couldn’t believe how much digital effects were used in the making of the show. Brainstorm Digital, the effects team behind it show us before and after shots from the series. I could watch these step by step breakdowns all day. I just hope I won’t spend the rest of the series watching out for what is real and what isn’t rather than focusing on the story.
