Minimix 04: Neil O’Connor (aka Somadrone)

April 8, 2011 by Al

This weeks Minimix is brought to us by Neil O’Connor aka Somadrone.

Neil has had a busy 12 months which included releasing his 3rd Somadrone LP Depth of field, his second LP with The Redneck Manifesto all the while polishing off a PhD in music. Take it away Doctor O’Connor.

Track 1
Harald Grosskopf – So Weit, So Gut
Stumbled across this on a mix from KUSF (SF radio) and fell in love. It’s from 1983, part of the new Berlin School. Just got reissued on RVNG Intl. This and track 2 are what the next Somadrone album will sound like.

Track 2
Manuel Gottsching – E2-E4
Another East German gem, 1984, also reissued recently on MG ART. Big influence on house music. And me. Great bike riding music!

Track 3
Brain Ticket – Machinery
I know, I have a problem, more german music. ITS JUST SO FUCKIN GOOD! I CANNOT HELP MYSELF!

Track 4
Jean Michelle Jarree – Oxygene (edit)
A very cheesy album, but some of the finest electronic music there is. Like floating on a bed of 7up.

Track 5
Eno / Roedelius – Speed Display
Brian Eno tucked away in the Bavarian Hills, late 70’s with members of the band Cluster. Blow and Beer.

Track 6
Soft Machine – Slightly all the time
Need i say more.

Thanks Neil
