Shock World Service at 40

March 2, 2011 by Al

Shock has spent the last four years bringing live music to Dublin’s and London’s ears by hosting diverse acts such as A Certain Ratio, Mouse on Mars, Vision Air and John Cooper Clarke. During that time the Shock Corps subsidiary, Shock World Service, have also been releasing regular podcasts, every one of which are of an excellent quality both in terms of delivery and content.

Past contributors include Tim Sweeney, Joakim, Diskjokke, Padded Cell, Mano Le Tough and RnaG’s Cian Ó Cíobháin. This week the podcast reached the big “4-0” and to mark the milestone Shock’s leading wiseacre Jon Averill has prepared a retrospective “Best Of”, painfully whittling down favourites from the last four years. Making the cut was Final Fantasy, Luke Vibert, Brian Eno and many many more… the results of which can be heard above. Life really does begin at 40.

You can find out more about Shock at their Soundcloudand Facebook pages.

We cannot recommend these podcasts highly enough.

PS. The artwork for this edition features a tip of the hat to an Irish recording legend. If anyone can guess who it is there’s a shiny penny in it for you.
